Experimental Finance
A relatively new field by itself, this branch of finance attempts to study people in a controlled setting, that is, make them guinea pigs in the world of finance. The purpose of this branch of finance is to prove whether current finance theory holds in all conditions by simulating certain market conditions in artificial settings. Closely related to experimental economics, its practitioners attempt to observe if existing financial theories are accurate in making valid predictions based on its present assumptions. A collateral objective is maybe hopefully to discover new theories about finance not yet in vogue. Anyway, the whole point of the exercise is either to debunk old theories or extend existing theories into new areas of human endeavour. Very few universities in the world presently offer courses or degrees in this field due to its newness. Even fewer people practice this kind of research except maybe some holders of doctorate degrees in economics or finance or both.
